Moment Customs Reopened The Idiroko Land Border Gates (Video)

Video shows the moment that officers of the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS) reopened the gates to the Idiroko border.

Idiroko border, one of four land borders approved for reopening, was shut in 2019 to prevent smuggling of rice into the country.

The reopened borders includes Idiroko border post in Ogun State and Jibiya border post in Katsina State.

Others are Kamba border post in Kebbi State and Ikom border post in Cross River State.

The reopened boarders spreads across four geopolitical zones across the country.

The Nigerian Customs Service (NCS) has reopened the Idiroko land border gates, two years after it was shut to prevent smugglers from bringing foreign parboiled rice into the country as well to boost local production of rice.

It comes days after a circular titled, ‘RE-OPENING OF FOUR (4) ADDITIONAL NIGERIAN BORDER POSTS’, signed by Deputy Comptroller-General E. I. Edorhe, on behalf of the Comptroller-General of Customs, Hameed Ali, approved the re-opening of Idiroko, Jibiya, Kamba and Ikom borders.

Idiroko border is one of four land borders shut in 2019 to curb smuggling of rice into the country. The others are Jibiya border post in Katsina State (North-West Zone), Kamba border post in Kebbi State (North-West Zone) and Ikom border post in Cross River State (South-South Zone).

The reopened boarders, which spread across four geopolitical zones across the country, includes those in the South-South, South-West, North-Central and North-West.
