Toyota Launches New SX Trim For The Tacoma And Tundra For 2023

Toyota is applying some mild updates to its midsize and full-size pickup trucks. Specifically, they’re each getting some new trim packages. The 2023 Toyota Tacoma will get an SX Package and a Chrome Package, and the Tundra will only get the former.

The Chrome package is available exclusively on SR5 Double Cab models with a 5-foot bed and a 3.5-litre V6 developing 278 hp and 265 lb-ft of torque. As the name suggests, it adds plenty of chrome as buyers will find shiny door handles, a chrome exhaust, and a chromed “TACOMA” insert on the tailgate. Last but not least, the package includes a leather-wrapped shifter and 18-inch polished alloy wheels.

Likewise, the SX Package is available on Access Cab and Double Cab SR5s with the aforementioned V6. It adds black fender flares, black badging, black exterior mirrors, and black 16-inch wheels. Buyers will also find an “SX” graphic on the side of the bed.

On the Tundra SX, the package is available exclusively on SR5 grades in both two-wheel- and all-wheel-drive configurations, as well as on double cab and CrewMax models. The new kit brings new 18-inch alloy wheels with a Dark Gray Metallic finish, plus a black finish for the door handles and rear inboard bumper. A more minimalist look is achieved with a badge delete treatment, while AWD models get a blacked-out 4×4 badge. The atmosphere continues in the cabin where black accents replace smoked silver trim elements.

The engines of Tundra still remains a 3.5- litre twin-turbo V6 and an electrified twin-turbo V6 with the latter offering more power at 437 horsepower. Both engines are mated as standard to a 10-speed automatic transmission. Pricing hasn’t been announced for these trucks, but expect it to be revealed just before they go on sale this year.
