Chevrolet Unveils The 2024 Blazer EV In FWD, RWD And AWD Models With Up to 557 Hp
It wasn’t quite long since Chevrolet teased the Blazer EV and we are seeing the full production model in all its glory. Many may remember the Blazer (90s and 2000s) as a rugged off-road SUV but this all-new EV model wants to take a bite off the Tesla Model Y’s market.
Four models will be available from launch starting with the 2LT and RS models in the summer of 2023. The SS model will arrive later in 2023, followed by the base 1LT and Police Pursuit Vehicle (PPV) in the first quarter of 2024. Production will take place in Ramos Arizpe, Mexico, which is where the current Blazer is built.
Top-of-the-line SS model will be available with a dual-motor powertrain that produces up to 557 hp (415 kW / 565 PS) and 648 lb-ft (878 Nm) of torque. That’s enough to embarrass the BMW X5 M50i and this is before factoring in the Wide Open Watts (WOW) mode, which enables the crossover to rocket from 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) in less than four seconds. The SS also gets a performance braking system with Brembos up front, a “track-tuned” suspension and standard summer performance tires wrapping 22-inch wheels — all-season tires will be optional.
The range for the SS is estimated to be approximately 290 miles. Of course, the SS is the most aggressive looking of all the Blazer EV trims, as it features a two-tone look and unique performance styling all around it. One fascinating thing about the Blazer EV is the fact that it comes in FWD, RWD and AWD models with only base models (1LT) available in FWD only.
Every Blazer EV has a solid amount of tech no matter the trim, too. As standard equipment, you get a massive 17.7-inch infotainment touchscreen and an 11-inch digital instrument cluster. That infotainment system comes with wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and GM’s EV route planning tech. One-pedal driving will be standard, and all trims get a powered charge port door that opens and closes when pushed. All models get a massive glass panoramic roof that includes a sunshade if you’d rather not let the sun in. Super Cruise will be available as an option in most trims, but standard on the SS. The rearview camera mirror you’d find in many GM products comes standard, and a heads-up display will be optional.
The Police Pursuit Vehicle model will use the SS grade as a starting point and will come with the largest Ultium battery in the lineup. Law enforcement will be able to select rear- or all-wheel-drive layouts. They’ll have a specially outfitted cabin for this job.
