BMW iX1 Electric SUV Enters Production

BMW iX1 Electric sports utility vehicle (SUV) Enters Production at its flexible production plant in Regensburg. 

Same plant is where combustion-engine, plug-in hybrid and fully-electric models are also being manufactured.

The fully-electric car, built on the new gen X1, is the smallest model among the BMW Sports Activity Vehicles (SAVs).

Priced significantly below the flagship iX, the iX1, is expected to boost the volume of the brands electric vehicles.

BMW has kicked off production of the fully-electric iX1 at its flexible production plant in Regensburg, Germany, where combustion-engine, plug-in hybrid and fully-electric models are also being manufactured.

The fully-electric car, built on the new generation X1, is the smallest model among the BMW Sports Activity Vehicles (SAVs). Priced significantly below the flagship iX, the iX1, is expected to boost the volume of the brands electric vehicles.

Milan Nedeljković, member of the Board of Management of BMW AG responsible for Production, said :

“We are delivering the goods. By 2024, at least one in three BMWs coming out of our Bavarian plants will be an electric car.”

Bavarian Minister of Transport Christian Bernreiter:

“That this (BMW iX1) fully-electric car will come off the production line in Regensburg also represents a strong commitment to Bavaria as a car-building location.”

The 2023 BMW iX1 xDrive30 features two electric Motors that are powered by a 64.7 kWh net capacity battery, which also comes from Regensburg. Depending on the wheel and tyre choices, the iX1 will go 414 to 440 km of range before needing a recharge.

The BMW iFACTORY is also about ensuring short distances for logistics as most components are sourced from Regensburg.

“The close link between component and vehicle production is part of our strategy,” says Markus Fallböhmer, head of Battery Production at the BMW Group.

By the end of 2022, the BMW Group will have invested a total of more than 1.6 billion euros in electric component production at its German locations in Dingolfing, Leipzig and Regensburg, where more than 3,300 employees currently work.
