Mercedes-Benz is said to be working on a smaller version of the iconic G-Class (popularly known here as the G-Wagon) that will arrive in the market in 2026, according to Germany’s news agency Handelsblatt, citing sources.
Inside sources told the German-language business newspaper that Mercedes-Benz Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Ola Kallenius is the driving force behind new compact version of its G-Class off-road vehicle.

The newcomer is expected to be slightly shorter than the popular Mercedes G-Class that stretches 4817-mm (189.65-inch) and will reportedly use the upcoming MMA vehicle architecture that will arrive in 2024 with the new CLA-Class.
Unlike the G-Wagon that is only available with a combustion engine, the new SUV will arrive with a choice of gas-powered and electric setups, with reports indicating the baby G-Class will provide more than 310 miles of range on a single charge.
The upcoming SUV will likely be priced lower than the Austrian-built luxury G-Wagon off-road vehicle that remains one of the most in-demand Mercedes-Benz models despite its eye-watering price.
The news of the upcoming baby G-Class comes just weeks after Mercedes-Benz announced plans to cut two-door models and Estates, including C-Class and E-Class Coupes.
