Nnewi-base indigenous automaker, Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing announced the development of the high-riding IVM G80 SUV for the African market on December 11, 2017.

A short clip taken at the Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing (IVM) plant in Nnewi, and posted to Nnewi City social media pages has alighted some of features of the ‘boxy’ IVM G80 SUV.

The Innoson IVM G80 is a variant of the Chinese-built BAIC BJ80 SUV, according to the wiki page of BJ80, the latter, reportedly an imitation of the popular Mercedes-Benz G-Class.

Like most auto-brands, Innoson also offers an armored vehicle version of the G80 with steel and kevlar plating, a bulletproof variant currently used by the Governor of Anambra State, Chukwuma Soludo, as his official vehicle.

Powering the Innoson G80 mid-size four-wheel drive luxury SUV is a Mitsubishi 4G69S4N (2.4L) petrol engine, and an upgraded 3.0L Turbocharged petrol engine like the one in the G80 model seen in the video shared.

According to the indigenous car maker, Innoson, 70% of all its car parts are produced in Nigeria, while the rests are sourced from countries like Japan, China, and Germany.
