Found inside the car exhaust system, catalytic converter, popularly known in Nigeria as Indomie, contains precious metals such as palladium and rhodium which help turns the hazardous exhaust gasses emitted by an engine into less toxic pollutants.

These precious metals now worth 20 times more than gold make catalytic converters a lucrative target for criminals as well as Nigerian mechanics and panel beaters, who steal them from unwary customers.
Like in Nigeria, thefts of catalytic converters are also a big deal in the United States of America, where State Farm auto received around 14,500 catalytic converter theft claims last year and over 23,000 in 2022.
