Mercedes-Benz And Stellantis Pull Their 2025 Outlook
Mercedes-Benz and Stellantis, the parent company of Opel, Fiat, Jeep, and Peugeot, among others, have withdrawn their outlooks for this year. According to the companies, this is due to the uncertainty that has arisen as a result of the trade measures of the American president, Donald Trump.
Mercedes said the uncertainties surrounding the import duties were “too great to estimate business developments this year reliably.” The company also warned that operating profit, cash flow, and margins would come under pressure if the current trade barriers persist.
American-European automaker Stellantis issued a similar statement on Wednesday. Although Stellantis’ first-quarter revenue fell 14 percent to 35.8 billion euros, the company is seeing signs of a commercial turnaround.
Earlier, Volvo and General Motors withdrew their forecasts due to uncertainties surrounding import duties. These tariffs threaten to disrupt global supply chains and significantly increase the cost of shipping cars. Mercedes exports cars made in Europe to North America but also makes US cars sold locally. These cars are also exported to countries including China.
US President Trump took steps on Tuesday to soften the impact of his auto tariffs, including reducing some duties on foreign parts. But for now, his volatile trade policy is sowing uncertainty across the industry. Earlier this month, the US imposed 25 percent tariffs on imported cars.
