Kia Planning A Mid-Size Pickup Truck For The US And An SUV For The Global Market
Kia has big plans for the rest of the decade. The Korean automaker has unveiled its mid- and long-term strategy beyond 2030, detailing several upcoming models, including a mid-size pickup truck for the United States and a global “flagship” electric SUV.
First, Kia will offer a new mid-size pickup truck with either an electric or extended-range hybrid powertrain. It is expected to share the platform that will underpin Hyundai’s upcoming pickup truck and may even spawn a rugged Kia SUV.
Kia plans to sell 90,000 pickup trucks in the U.S. by 2034, according to Automotive News.
In addition to the new pickup truck, customers should also get the chance to buy a new electric SUV. Kia said the new model will be one of three new global vehicles it plans to launch.
Kia wants to expand its electric vehicle lineup from 11 to 14. One of them will be the small EV1. Nine of them will be SUVs, and three will be commercial vehicles. Despite Kia expanding its electric vehicle lineup, the automaker expects to sell 1 million electric vehicles annually, down from last year’s projection of 1.3 million.
