Hybrid Volvo XC40 Plug-In Recall: “Do Not Charge It”
Volvo is recalling approximately 64,000 Volvo XC40s worldwide. This concerns older plug-in hybrid XC40 T4 and T5 models.
Worldwide, 64,089 Volvo T4 and T5 plug-in hybrids must be returned to the garage. This concerns models from the 2020, 2021, and 2022 model years.
The Volvo XC40 T4 and T5 models involved in the recall may experience a potential problem with the high-voltage battery when fully charged. Due to a possible manufacturing defect, battery cells can overheat, which, in the worst case, could lead to a battery fire. Garages will inspect the battery cells for any abnormalities. If deemed necessary, the battery modules will be replaced. There are reportedly no known cases of injury.
Volvo asks customers with affected cars not to charge their XC40 T4 or T5 for the time being.
