Honda Hybrid Boom: Sales Have Improved Astronomically

Honda’s hybrid and sedan demand drove record August sales, with hybrids reaching 36,776 units, a 9.2% year-to-date increase.

The CR-V hybrid significantly bolstered the brand’s total hybrid performance, with sales increasing by 8.0 percent in August to reach 20,437 units—accounting for more than half of the model’s total monthly sales volume of 37,607. Although Accord hybrid sales experienced a more robust growth of 16.4 percent, the sedan variant’s sales volume remained limited to 8,120 units.

Although Civic hybrid sales experienced a decline of 11.8% last month and a 3.7% decrease year-to-date, overall Civic sales reached 21,976 units—a 1.8% increase—making it the brand’s second-best-selling model in August. The Accord followed closely, recording 18,691 units sold, representing a significant year-over-year sales increase of 19.1%.

Honda Motor August 2026 Sales Report: Key Highlights

Passport sales rose 16% on TrailSport demand, while HR-V and Odyssey grew 4.3% and 3.8%. Pilot sales fell 7.5%, Ridgeline remained flat, and Prologue sales dropped 80.9%, leading Honda to end its production after 2026.

Acura experienced a strong performance in August, recording a 6.5 percent increase in sales. The MDX served as a primary driver of this growth, with sales surging by 66.3 percent compared to August 2025. Consequently, year-to-date sales for the Acura brand have risen 4.4 percent, totaling 93,553 units.

Honda also demonstrated positive momentum, with year-to-date sales increasing by 3.4 percent. The automaker has surpassed the 1 million vehicle milestone within the first eight months of the year, achieving this threshold one month earlier than in 2025. Total monthly sales for August reached 122,174 units.
