After Conquering China In Two Years, Xiaomi Set Eyes On Europe
Xiaomi is set to expand its EV operations into Europe, starting with Germany next year, through strategic partnerships with established local dealership groups.
The Chinese EV maker will enter the German EV market next year, partnering with established groups like LUEG Mobility and Emil Frey to leverage their retail expertise and existing customer trust.
Furthermore, by collaborating with established dealerships rather than adopting a direct-to-consumer sales model, Xiaomi will provide prospective buyers with the opportunity to physically inspect its vehicles and experience their features firsthand before committing to a purchase.
Xiaomi’s European vehicle pricing is expected to be higher than in its domestic market due to significant tariffs imposed by the European Union on Chinese-made electric vehicles. Because the company had not yet launched its flagship SU7 sedan when the European Commission initiated its investigation into Chinese EV subsidies in 2023, Xiaomi did not participate in the formal inquiry. Consequently, as reported by the South China Morning Post, the manufacturer may be subject to the maximum countervailing duty of 45.3 percent.
Xiaomi’s Skynomad
Since entering the automotive sector, Xiaomi has achieved the remarkable milestone of delivering over 700,000 vehicles in China—a significant feat for a newcomer in such a highly competitive industry. In its domestic market, Xiaomi benefits from its status as a well-established technology brand, frequently referred to as the “Apple of China,” which has provided a distinct competitive advantage through pre-existing consumer trust.
While Xiaomi maintains a presence in various international markets, its brand recognition in Europe remains limited. Consequently, the company cannot rely solely on brand familiarity to capture market share. To succeed in the highly competitive European landscape, Xiaomi must distinguish itself by offering superior vehicle features and a compelling value proposition.
