Volkswagen ID. Tiguan: New Electric SUV Will Debut In October, Replace ID.4 and ID.5 in 2027

Volkswagen is set to unveil the new all-electric ID. Tiguan SUV in early October 2026, bringing the popular “Tiguan nameplate” into the electric era as the German automaker continues to expand its battery-electric vehicle (BEV) lineup.

Scheduled to arrive in markets at the beginning of 2027, the new ID. Tiguan—positioned as a new-generation electric SUV with a completely new design—will carry one of Volkswagen’s most established SUV names into the electric era, following the ID. Polo and ID. Cross.

According to Volkswagen, the new ID. Tiguan will succeed the ID.4 and ID.5 in its electric SUV lineup and will remain available alongside combustion-engine and hybrid powertrains, with more than 8.3 million Tiguan vehicles produced to date.

Volkswagen describes the current Tiguan and its sister model, the Tayron, as its best-selling models worldwide. They are currently offered with petrol, diesel and plug-in hybrid powertrains. In the past year alone, deliveries of the models exceeded one million units.

More details about its specifications, performance and equipment are expected when the new electric SUV officially premieres in October. Until its official unveiling, Volkswagen says the ID. Tiguan will continue undergoing testing while wearing camouflage.

“More than 8.3 million Tiguan vehicles produced demonstrate the strength and trust associated with this model name… With the ID. Tiguan, we are carrying this product promise into the electric future,” said Thomas Schäfer, CEO of Volkswagen Brand.

Volkswagen didn’t say why the ID.4 and ID.5 are being replaced by the ID. Tiguan SUV, but the brand noted that more than 950,000 units of the two models have been delivered since 2021, ranking them “among the most successful battery-electric vehicle (BEV) model series of Volkswagen AG.”
