FCT Police Order Arrest, Prosecution Of Drivers Using Plate-Less Vehicles, Illegal Tinted Glasses

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has warned motorists against driving vehicles without valid licence plates, using tinted glasses without permits, or concealing, defacing or deliberately fading vehicle number plates.
The Command said the warning became necessary following the increasing use of such vehicles within the Federal Capital Territory, particularly SUVs, by individuals allegedly seeking to evade detection and identification.
In a statement issued on Sunday, October 4, 2026, the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, directed officers to arrest and immediately prosecute motorists found violating the relevant laws.
The Police also warned against the use of fake diplomatic number plates or diplomatic plates by unauthorised persons within the FCT. Such practices, it said, could create significant security concerns in the nation’s capital.
According to the Command, vehicles with concealed, defaced or deliberately faded number plates can make it difficult for law enforcement agencies to identify and track motorists, especially when such vehicles are linked to criminal activities.
The CP has consequently ordered police officers across the FCT to intensify enforcement and ensure strict compliance with existing laws governing vehicle identification and the use of tinted glasses. The directive applies to vehicles operating without proper identification.
However, the Commissioner instructed officers to conduct the enforcement exercise professionally and warned them against using the operation as an avenue for extortion. Motorists are expected to comply with the applicable requirements to avoid arrest and prosecution.
The FCT Police Command urged residents to support its security operations and report suspicious vehicles or activities to the nearest police station or through 08032003913 and 08028940883, as it intensifies efforts to improve vehicle identification and security across Abuja.
