After 2030, The Petrol Peugeot 208 Will Still Be Available For Purchase
Peugeot will keep the current petrol-powered 208 on sale going forward, with CEO Alain Favey confirming the new electric e-208 will be offered alongside the petrol-powered car, not as a replacement.
“We will continue to offer the 208 in its current form to cover the part of the market that will not yet be electric and will still require some petrol engine or hybrid solutions,” Favey said.
The current 208 is offered with a choice of two mild hybrid petrol engines and a new petrol Turbo 100 1.2-litre three-cylinder engine.
Favey suggested that these powertrain options would continue to be offered after 2030 to satisfy the remaining portion of customers who are not ready for electric drive—but said that Peugeot “does not expect this demand to be very strong.” He added: “We believe that the demand for BEVs will grow very, very strongly. We believe that the demand for BEVs will continue to grow in the coming years, which is definitely where our focus will be—and that is why the launch of the new e-208 is the most important event in the B-segment for us.”
The current 208 is likely to be extensively cosmetically updated inside and out to match its new electric sibling and keep it fresh.
