BMW’s Humanoid Robot That Walks, Perform Two-handed Tasks Completes Testing At Its Plant - autojosh

Manufacturers, to be candid, aim to minimize human labour and enhance automation. Robots do not demand higher wages, holidays, or labour rights; however, they also foster an environment filled with fear and uncertainty. Figure AI, a trailblazer in robotics, and BMW have achieved significant advancements with the Figure 02 humanoid robot.

Working on a production line, the Figure 02 robot has seen a 400% increase in speed and a sevenfold increase in success rate since the first application of the system. The companies described this result as a major step forward for autonomous production systems.

In a recently published video, it is shown performing up to 1000 actions per day. This represents a turning point for humanoid robots in industrial settings. Commenting on this achievement, Founder and CEO of Figure, Brett Adcock, states:

This will only improve as we deploy more robots, collect more data, and improve our AI models.

The video also showcases the accuracy of the Figure 02 robot. The humanoid Figure 02 was successfully tested earlier this year at BMW’s Spartanburg factory, and it was the first time BMW integrated the robot into its production line.

The plan is to return Figure 02 to BMW’s facility in January 2025. Adcock added that the humanoid Figure 02 has not yet reached its full potential.
