BMW M4 CS Unleashed With Over 500 Hp And Lots Of Carbon Fibre

Like a bolt from the blue, the German automaker launches this new BMW M4 CS onto Carland: a limited M4 with no less than 550 hp.

Anyone who shops for an M version of a particular BMW model has been able to choose from more than one version for years. The current M4 is available in a 480-hp ‘basic form’ with rear-wheel drive, and above it is the also rear-wheel-drive 510-hp M4 Competition. If you go for an M4 Competition with xDrive all-wheel drive, you will be treated to 530 hp. Just like the regular engine versions of the 4-series, the M4s have also recently been renewed. We still have to wait a little longer for the updated M4 CSL, but BMW is already filling the gap between the M4’s competition and the Coupé Sport Leichtbau. This is the M4 CS.

When it comes to pure power, the BMW M4 CS is on par with the M4 CSL, which has not yet been presented in a new form. This means that its 3.0 inline six is good for 550 hp and 650 Nm. Shifting is done with an eight-speed M Steptronic automatic transmission. All-wheel drive is standard, although it is possible to unleash full power only on the rear wheels. The BMW M4 CS accelerates from a standstill to a speed of 100 km/h in 3.4 seconds. If you want to accelerate from 80 km/h to 120 km/h, you only have to hold the pedal against the floor for 2.6 seconds in fourth gear. From a standstill, the M4 CS reaches a speed of 200 km/h in just 11.1 seconds. The top speed is 302 km/h.

Just like with the CSL, attention has also been paid to weight savings with the CS. For example, it has a carbon fibre-reinforced plastic roof. Furthermore, the hood, side mirror caps, the front air intake, the front splitter, the rear spoiler, and the diffuser are also made of carbon fibre. The vehicle weight is 1,760 kilos (M4 CSL: 1,625 kilos). Still not tender. BMW also gives the M4 CS a ‘sharper’ suspension that distinguishes it from its less powerful M brothers and sisters. Another important difference with the M4 CSL is that the CSL always has rear-wheel drive.

BMW gives the M4 CS an exhaust system with active flaps, a titanium silencer and black exhaust tips. The M4 CS has standard M Compound braking with red or black claws. Carbon-carbon ceramic brake discs can be ordered at an additional cost. The M4 CS has unique 19-inch (front) and 20-inch (rear) alloy wheels for the M4 and sits on Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 rubber. Also optional: an M-strut brace for that little bit of extra stiffness. Like the M4 CSL, the M4 CS has a kidney grille with only a set of horizontal slats. The adaptive LED headlights fire yellow instead of white light into the world, just like the M4 CSL.
