BMW X4 Takes The Axe As Model Is Officially Discontinued
After two generations and about ten years, the end is in sight for the BMW X4. The ‘X3 with a more sloping roofline’ is calling it a day, although it seems that a kind of spiritual successor is on the way.
Following the X6, BMW thought it was a good idea to also start working on a ‘coupe-SUV’, a segment lower than ten years ago. In 2013, we were introduced to the BMW X4, a car that certainly managed to get people talking about its looks. In 2018, it was time for a completely new second generation, which has now been around for six years. It will also be the last one for the time being because the Italian branch of Motor1 has understood from BMW that it is coming to an end.
When exactly, that is not entirely clear yet, but it does not seem to be taking too long. After all, a new generation of the X3 has already been presented. According to Motor1, BMW believes that soon, when the X4 is gone, the still fairly fresh and already fairly large X2 can already serve the X4 market quite well and that otherwise there is also just an X6 for those who find the X2 too small. In between, there would not be enough room for the X4 anymore. Incidentally, there is reportedly an electric X4-like in the pipeline for the longer term. That could then be a more streamlined brother of the new ‘iX3’ in the Neue Klasse.
