22-year-old car wash attendant arrested for stealing customer’s Mercedes-Benz GLK 350 SUV.

Suspect part of syndicate who steals vehicle, disassemble the vehicles and sell them in parts.

Upon their arrest, 16 engines, 8 gear boxes, 15 batteries, 7 stolen vehicles, and 74 tyres were recovered.

The police in Delta State have arrested a 22-year-old car wash attendant named Emmanuel Chidera, after disappearing with a client’s Mercedes-Benz GLK 350 SUV that he was paid to wash with the intention of selling it.

The spokesman of the Delta State Police Command, Bright Edafe, who spoke on the matter, said:

“The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of GRA division received a distress call that on 30th of May, 2023, a man took his Benz GLK 350 to a car wash situated along Mariam Babangida way for washing but when he returned back, he was told that one of the attendants had stolen the car and escaped to an unknown destination.

Following the receipt of this complaint, detectives embarked on an intelligence-led investigation, which led to his arrest on 14th of June 2023 around magistrate court area in Asaba.

“During the course of interrogation, the suspect confessed that he had taken the car to Benin City in Edo state where he intends to sell the car. The vehicle has been recovered, and the effort to arrest his accomplices is ongoing.

According to the police report, the suspects, who specialises in carjacking in Warri and its environs, takes the stolen vehicles to Ughelli where they disassembled them and sell the parts.

Upon their arrest, 16 vehicle engines, 8 gear boxes, 15 motor batteries, seven suspected stolen vehicles, and 74 vehicle tyres were recovered from them.

According to the police, the suspects are in custody and the investigation is ongoing.
