Car thefts are common, but thieves rarely steal them from factories. Yet that’s exactly what happened in Kentucky, where eight new Corvettes were stolen from a General Motors plant.

Factory employees only realized the cars were missing when the Warren County Sheriff’s Office called them. One of the officers saw a Corvette with factory stickers at an apartment complex about a 14-minute drive from the factory. This was confirmed by car dealer Mark Thomas on Facebook, who also revealed a few details.

By the time police contacted the factory, no one had noticed that several cars were missing. However, after the call, it became clear that at least one car was missing, and after checking, it was confirmed that eight had been stolen. The suspects cut through the fence and drove away in the cars, some of which were left in the parking lot of a Lowe’s Home Improvement store.

The reason the thieves chose this location is still unknown. At least one customer took a photo of the red Corvette, and police were also present at the scene, returning several of the stolen cars to the factory, while others were later found.

The store in question is about 12 kilometers from the GM plant.

An investigation has been launched, and a 21-year-old man has been arrested in Michigan. He has been charged with car theft, fleeing from police, and resisting arrest. Police are still searching for his accomplices.
