Ford’s EVs May Get A Manual Transmission As Patent Has Been Summitted

Sketches of an electric vehicle manual transmission are included in Ford’s recently released patent application, which was released on March 20.
According to Ford, the transmission manages the flow of electrical energy supplied by the battery, controlling engine speed and the torque each motor produces. To put it another way, signals are sent to alter the vehicle’s engine output as you press the shift lever, simulating the shifts of a conventional transmission.
Ford is not alone in this idea, as some other manufacturers are also trying to add similar functions to electric cars.
Back in 2022, Toyota filed a patent for a virtual transmission and tested the ‘Manual BEV concept’ in a Lexus UX300e EV. That combined a joystick, a fake clutch, and some fancy coding to simulate some real driving feel.
Of course, the patent doesn’t mean that Ford will produce this transmission.
