Over 300 lives were lost in various road accidents in Ogun State in 2021, according to the Federal Road Safety Corps.
Florence Okpe, the FRSC’s Public Education Officer in Ogun State, announced this in a statement on Sunday.
According to Okpe, over 200 vehicles were involved in the road accidents, which involved 1,200 people.
Over 77 percent of the accidents, she said, were caused by speeding.
According to the FRSC official, Sienna vehicles, also known as space buses, were heavily involved in the crashes.
“The year 2021 was marked by an increase in road traffic crashes in Ogun State,” Okpe said.
“In light of this, the FRSC in Ogun has begun planning to reduce road traffic collisions. The command will deploy radar guns for speed detection and control.
“We will also sustain the enforcement of installation of speed limiting devices in commercial vehicles as a whole and by extension Sienna vehicles, which have been observed to have high involvement in crashes.
“The enforcement, which is scheduled to take effect as soon as possible, will be collaboratively carried out with other sister agencies like the Nigerian Army, the police, among others.”
