GM Announced That It’s Brand (Chevrolet, Cadillac, And GMC) Can Now Use Tesla’s Supercharger Network
The industry-wide adoption of the NACS charging plug in North America continues. Today, GM has announced that owners of EVs made by its brands (Chevrolet, Cadillac, and GMC) can finally use Tesla’s Supercharger network in the US and Canada. This was originally scheduled to happen earlier this year.
There are more than 17,800 Superchargers spread throughout the two countries, so this is a pretty significant expansion of the compatible charging network for GM vehicles.
Speaking of compatibility, if you own a Chevy, Cadillac, or GMC EV and want to use the Superchargers, you’ll need to buy a GM-approved NACS adapter, at an MSRP of $225. These should become available through GM vehicle brand mobile apps in the US first, and then in Canada “later this year”. Those same apps will let you locate Superchargers near you, check their status, initiate a charge, and pay for your charging sessions.
With this expansion, GM says its customers now have access to more than 231,800 public Level 2 and DC fast chargers in North America, a number which will continue to grow “as GM continues to help accelerate the deployment of infrastructure in communities and heavily travelled corridors through its various charging collaborations”.
Wade Sheffer, vice president of GM Energy, said:
GM’s ongoing efforts to help accelerate the expansion of public charging infrastructure is an integral part of our commitment to an all-electric future. Enabling access to even more publicly available fast chargers represents yet another way GM is focused on further improving the customer experience and making the transition to electric more seamless.
