GM Sold 691,978 Vehicles In 2nd Quarter To Keep U.S Sales Crown
GM sold 691,978 vehicles in 2nd Quarter and 1,295,186 vehicles in the first half of 2023 to keep US sales crown.
In comparison, its rival, Toyota Motor North America (TNMA), reported first-half sales of 1,038,520 vehicles (-0.7%).
From January to June, GM sold 581,114 pickups and large SUVs, which comprised about 45% of its total sales.
During the first half, the automaker sold just 49 examples of GMC Hummer EVs, 2316 units of Cadillac Lyriqs.
General Motors (GM) dominated the U.S. auto industry in sales during the second quarter of 2023 after sales jumped to 691,978 vehicles (+19%) from 582,401 examples a year earlier.
The Detroit-based automaker reported sales of about 1.3 million vehicles in the first half of 2023 (+18%), including 36,322 electric vehicles — which is about 2.8% of its total sales during the period.
“GM had a strong quarter with sales coming in a bit higher than most forecasts,” said Michelle Krebs, executive analyst at Cox Automotive.
“Retail sales were up as were fleet sales. GM had some big sales hikes in its large, pricey SUVs, which should boost profits.
“At the other end, the Chevrolet Trax looks to be off to a good start, indicating an appetite for more affordable vehicles.”
From January to June, GM sold 581,114 pickup trucks and large SUVs, which comprised about 45 per cent of the brand’s total sales of 1,295,186 new vehicles.
During the first half, the automaker sold just 49 (-87%) examples of GMC Hummer EVs and 2,316 units of Cadillac Lyriqs, blaming battery module availability as the big issue in terms of production figures.
While GM retains the sales crown in the US market, its closest rival, Toyota Motor North America (TNMA), reported first-half sales of 1,038,520 vehicles, down 0.7% compared with the same period last year.
