Honda Motor announced on Thursday it will recall more than 563,000 2007-2011 CR-V Crossover sport utility vehicles (SUVs) in United States due to possible corrosion caused by de-icing agents used in some states.
The Japanese brand said an accumulation of road salt could build up in the rear frame, causing it to corrode and in some cases, allowing the rear trailing arm to fall off.
The recall covers 2007-2011 model year CR-V vehicles in 22 states and the District of Columbia, where road salt is routinely applied to the roadway during the winter to melt snow and ice.
Honda said it has received customer complaints, but no reports of injuries or fatalities related to the recall, adding that affected cars will be notified in May to bring them in for inspection.
At the dealership, a support brace will be installed on the trailing arm. Honda said if the bracket can’t hold the trailing arm together, it will repair the frame or repurchase the Crossover SUV .
Though the recall is limited to cars used in the United States, some of these 2007-2011 CR-Vs might have found their way to Africa as second-hand (Tokunbo) cars, especially Nigeria, where Honda model is one of the most popular car on the road.
