Stellantis, a US-European automaker, will close its Chrysler plant in Windsor, Canada, for two weeks to adjust production due to high import tariffs imposed by US President Donald Trump. A plant in Mexico will also temporarily close. In order to avoid US tariffs, Stellantis temporarily closes its Canadian manufacturing.

“It’s one of the actions we have to take immediately,” said a spokeswoman for the company, which owns Jeep, Dodge, and RAM, among others. The plant, one of three Stellantis has in Canada, produces the Chrysler Pacifica minivan and the electric Dodge Charger. The facility is just across the river from Detroit and employs about 4,000 people.

Automakers will face 25 percent tariffs on cars and light trucks imported into the United States starting Thursday, expected to add thousands of dollars to the price of cars.

According to Antonio Filosa, Stellantis’ North American operations director, the new tariffs will affect employees of “several” business units that support operations in Canada and Mexico. He speaks of a difficult period the company is going through. It is not yet known how long the Mexican factory will be closed.
