Judge Orders Final Forfeiture Of Toyota Prado, Plus ₦60m Cash Found In The SUV, To FG

A judge has ordered the final forfeiture of ₦60m cash found in Ghana-Must-Go bags and a Toyota Prado to the FG.

Justice Fadima Murtala Aminu of the Federal High Court, sitting in Gusau, Zamfara State, on Tuesday, February 25. 2020, ordered the final forfeitures of ₦60 million recovered from one Murtala Muhammad in 2019.

The EFCC’s Sokoto Zonal Office had on Tuesday, May 28. 2019, arrested Muhammad at No.145 Igala Housing Estate, off By-pass Road Gusau, Zamfara State, while trying to use a Black Land Cruiser Prado to convey the said amount in 4 ‘Ghana-must-go’ bags.

In addition to the ₦60m, the Judge also granted the final forfeiture of the Toyota Prado that was used to the federal government of Nigeria.

The court had earlier directed any person or persons claiming the seized funds to come forward and defend it.

Justice Fadima Murtala Aminu held that:

“A final forfeiture order of this honourable court is hereby granted, forfeiting to the Federal Government of Nigeria the money sum of N60,000,000.00 (Sixty Million Naira) ; and a Black Land Cruiser Prado which are reasonably suspected to be proceeds of unlawful activity.”

The suspected politician, Murtala Muhammad, is an alleged brother to the Secretary to the Zamfara State Government, Professor Abdullahi Shinkafi.





Murtala Muhammad was arrested following intelligent report of his alleged suspicious money laundering activities.
