Lagos Airport: Flight Operations Resumes After Corpse Was Removed

After the disposal of a mutilated body on the runway at Lagos’ Murtala Muhammed International Airport, flight operations have resumed.
Full flight operations have resumed, according to a source who spoke on the condition of anonymity, after the runway was cleansed of the mangled body of an unidentified male.
The MMIA’s international wing in Lagos was briefly shut down in the early hours of Thursday, according to report, after the mangled body of a dead man was discovered on Runway 18R.
The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria acknowledged the resumption of flights at the airport in a statement headed, ‘Unidentified body recovered on MMA runway during inspection.’
The statement read, “The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria wishes to inform the general public of an incident in which unidentified human remains were found on Runway 18R/36L on Thursday, May 19, 2022.
“A motorised cleaner, that was cleared to carry out a derruberisation and sweeping of the runway discovered the remains at about 0106hours, and escalated the situation to relevant departments.

“As a result, between 0110 and 0343 hours, the runway was temporarily closed to allow for an immediate evacuation of the remains. Flight operations resumed at 0343 hours.
“Investigations are ongoing, and a report will be issued accordingly.”
The body was discovered on Runway 18R during a normal FAAN runway inspection, according to airport officials.
The runway was briefly shut down, according to airport officials, while a team of officials from the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria and the Nigeria Police Force evacuated the body from the runway.
International flights were unable to land or take off from the airport’s international terminal during the runway’s temporary closure.
