Lagos Announces Traffic Diversion In Yaba Axis Due To Rail Construction
The Lagos State Government has announced that traffic will be diverted from Yaba as the first phase of the Red Line railroads, which runs from Oyingbo to Agbado, is completed between midnight February 1 and February 16, 2022.
The Commissioner for Transportation, Dr Frederic Oladeinde, stated in a statement that the detour was in keeping with the Lagos Rail Mass Transit project.
The two-week-long site activity, according to Oladeinde, will demand a diversion to protect road users during the installation of precast beams.
Motorists travelling to Muritala Mohammed Way from Western Avenue would be diverted to Empire Road at Jibowu, while traffic inbound from Yaba will be redirected to Empire Road to access Western Avenue, according to the diversion plan.
He explained that in the same vein, motorist on Herbert Macaulay road would be able to connect Empire Road to access Western Avenue for their desired destinations.
The commissioner told residents that the area would be cordoned off for their protection, and that emergency vehicles will be on the scene to tow mechanically problematic vehicles along the axis.
He also indicated that the State’s Traffic Management Authority would install signage on the access roads to control traffic flow and reduce inconveniences.
The State Government reaffirmed its commitment to the development of transportation infrastructure in the metropolis, stating that it is critical for the State Government’s Multi-Modal Transportation System, which will increase the citizens’ economic prowess.
