LAMATA Prosecutes Driver Attached To BRT Enforcement Team For Extortion - autojosh

Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) prosecutes driver seen extorting money from a member of the public.

The driver, attached to an enforcement team, extorted money from a member of the public for allegedly violating the BRT lane.

LAMATA revealed that the driver acted in concert with a police officer attached to the enforcement team.

The police officer has since been apprehended and suspended from the enforcement team.





The Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) has reacted to a trending video showing one of its drivers extorting money from a member of the public, who was alleged to have violated the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) lane.

In a press release, LAMATA said that the driver attached to the dedicated security team for the protection of transport infrastructure has been referred to the Mobile Court on Traffic Offences for prosecution for extortion.

LAMATA further revealed that the driver acted in concert with a police officer attached to the enforcement team, who has since been apprehended and suspended from the team.

“The Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) is in receipt of a trending video showing one of the drivers attached to the dedicated security team for the protection of transport infrastructure engaging in extorting money from a member of the public, alleged to have violated the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) lane.”

“Investigations have revealed that the driver acted in concert with a police officer attached to the enforcement team, who has since been apprehended and suspended from the team.

“He has been handed over to the Lagos State Police Command, Ikeja, for disciplinary action according to his terms of engagement.”





“The driver has also been referred to the Mobile Court on Traffic Offences for prosecution for extortion.

“Kindly be assured that the public would be given update on this case as the Babajide Sanwo-Olu Administration has zero tolerance for any misdemeanor which will pitch government operatives and enforcement agencies against the citizens.”

LAMATA further appealed to the public to assist the agency by giving information that would help us stamp out corrupt practices in the enforcement of the BRT regulation by the dedicated security team.
