Lexus LBX Morzio RR Is The GR Corolla For The Global Market
Whether you go for a front- or all-wheel-drive Lexus LBX, you’ll get a hybrid powertrain that produces 136 horsepower. Now there’s an LBX that breaks away from the familiar Lexus recipe. It’s the Lexus LBX Morzio RR, a crazy sporty top-of-the-line version with a 300-plus horsepower, three-cylinder 1.6.
Earlier this year, Lexus conjured up the LBX Morizo RR Concept. That study model was considered a fairly concrete preview of a sporty top version of the LBX. The production version presented today looks a lot like its conceptual precursor. The ‘Concept’ part of the name is dropped, with the result that the new top version is called Lexus LBX Morizo RR, but just like the concept car, it has over 300 hp.
Under the hood of the LBX Morizo RR is not a 1.5 three-cylinder that gets support from hybrid hardware, like in every other LBX, but a crazy 1.6 three-cylinder. In Europe, you will probably know that snorted petrol engine from the GR Yaris. Since the beginning of this year, it has delivered 280 hp and 390 Nm, but the LBX gets the variant of the 1.6 that Toyota hangs in the GR Corolla in the United States, among other places, which is not available here. This means that the four-wheel-drive Lexus LBX also has 304 hp and 400 Nm. With that power, the new top version sprints from a standstill to a speed of 100 km/h in just 5.2 seconds. It will be available with an eight-speed automatic and with an ‘intelligent’ manual transmission with six gears.
From the outside, you can recognize the Morizo RR by its special 19-inch wheels, wheel arch extensions, modified front and rear bumpers and extra edges and lips. In the top version, you will find sports seats, aluminium pedals, and a handful of aluminium-coloured accents.
