Lotus Emeya Electric Sedan Gets September 7th Launch Date
Lotus has finally revealed the name of its upcoming all-electric sedan. Formerly only known as the Type 133 will be called Emeya. The company has released a short video teaser with an official unveiling scheduled for September 7.
The Emeya will be the brand’s third EV, following the Evija supercar and the Eletre SUV. It’s like the middle child who’s trying to stand out in a family of overachievers.
The teaser video doesn’t show much, but it does give us a glimpse of the car’s lighting signatures. The Emeya will feature LED daytime running lights that sweep across the front and a thin, wide light bar at the back. It’s like the car is winking at you, but in a cool, “I’ve got tech” kind of way.
The Emeya will ride on Lotus’ Electric Premium Architecture, which also serves as the foundation for the Eletre SUV. It’s expected to pack a 112.0-kilowatt-hour battery that could offer up to 644 km of range. And if you’re the impatient type, it’ll fast-charge from 10% to 80% in just 20 minutes. It is likely to feature a dual-motor setup with all-wheel drive. The entry-level variant could offer around 600 horsepower, while a range-topping version should boast more than 900 hp. That puts it in the same league as the Porsche Taycan Turbo S and the Tesla Model S Plaid.
One interesting detail is the car’s active aerodynamics. Lotus is planning to incorporate high-tech air suspension, rear-wheel steering, and active roll control. As for the price, well, that’s still a mystery. But considering the Eletre is expected to start at just over €96,900, the Emeya will likely be a bit easier on the wallet.
