North Korea’s Kim Jong-un seems to have gotten himself a brand new 2024 Mercedes-Maybach GLS 600 SUV, demonstrating his ability to swerve international sanctions banning export of luxury items to the country.
The brand new Mercedes-Maybach GLS 600 SUV was spotted on board Kim’s heavily armored private train, which was used by the North Korean leader to visit flood-affected parts of the Uiju country.
Photos released showed the Mercedes-Maybach GLS 600’s distinctive grille visible from inside Kim’s private armored train, from where the North Korean leader was addressing flood evacuees .
While a base Mercedes-Maybach GLS 600 SUV starts at $250k, Kim’s new armored ride may cost north of $600,000 – thanks to its several security features, including the armoring and communications systems.
Kim’s collection of premium rides already includes a Rolls-Royce Phantom 8 sedan, a Cadillac Escalade SUV and a Lexus LX 600 SUV he recently rode to survey flooded parts of the country.
He also has a Mercedes-Maybach S600 Guard, a Maybach 62 S limousine which features a toilet, while Russian President Vladimir Putin also gifted him a luxury Aurus Senat L700 limousine earlier this year.
Since becoming leader in late 2011, Kim has used his luxury bulletproof train to visit China and Vietnam, as well as trips to Russia to meet Vladimir Putin.
The North Korean leader’s armored train is equipped with attack weapons and a helicopter for escape. It also houses his office and space to discuss agendas ahead of meetings as well as a place to keep his armored vehicles.
