With its much-anticipated, all-electric ID, Volkswagen is ready to electrify the US market. Buzz is a modern reimagining of the iconic Microbus. This isn’t just an electric vehicle; it’s a nod to a cultural icon that once symbolized freedom and adventure, now re-engineered for a sustainable future.

The ID. Buzz is more than just a nostalgic nod to the past. It’s a versatile vehicle designed to cater to modern needs. The US version is set to feature a three-row configuration with a longer wheelbase than its European counterpart (which we reviewed not that long ago), providing ample space for families or groups. This extended wheelbase model will house a larger 91 kWh battery, promising a decent range to complement its spacious interior.

Volkswagen has high hopes for the ID. Buzz in the US, with Lars Krause, executive vice president of sales and marketing at VW Commercial Vehicles, expressing confidence in its success. The company aims to double the production of the ID. Buzz, aiming to produce over 100,000 units in the medium term. The introduction of new variants like the three-row model and the upcoming GTX model fuels this ambitious goal.

In addition to these high-end models, Volkswagen also plans to introduce an entry-level ID. Buzz with a smaller 62 kWh battery to cater to budget-conscious consumers. This is expected to further drive demand for the electric van, making it accessible to a wider audience.

The ID. Buzz is expected to make a significant contribution to Volkswagen’s plant capacity utilization, particularly in Hanover, where the electric van will be produced alongside the Multivan. As ID. Buzz expands into new markets like the US and the company anticipates a surge in demand, the 100,000 production target becomes a realistic goal.

The ID. Buzz will hit US dealerships in the coming months, with the long-wheelbase version also available in Europe. While the official US pricing hasn’t been announced yet, it’s expected to start at over €47,000. In Germany, the ID. Buzz starts at €64,600, which is considerably higher than in the US.
