Rolls-Royce Ends Production Of Its Dawn Convertible
Final Rolls-Royce Dawn Convertible has been built, marking the end of the British luxury marque’s “world’s quietest convertible”.
Rolls-Royce Dawn debuted in 2015 while the Black Badge variant of the Dawn was added to the Rolls-Royce model family in 2017.
Dawn Convertible is closely related to the Wraith Coupe, though Rolls-Royce notes that 80% of its panels were entirely unique.
Rolls-Royce Motor Cars has officially announced the end of production of the Dawn, marking the end of the 2-door four-seater which British luxury marque dubbed as “the world’s quietest convertible”.
Image of the final five Dawn examples to roll off the production line in Goodwood was shared by Rolls-Royce, with the very last one finished in Midnight Sapphire paint with an Arctic White bonnet and a Mandarin coachline, positioned in the front.
The Rolls-Royce Dawn Convertible debuted in 2015, following the success of the Rolls-Royce Phantom Drophead Coupe. A Black Badge variant of the Dawn was added to the Rolls-Royce model family in 2017 and like the Ghost and Wraith that preceded it, the Dawn’s alter ego derived its character from a series of engineering and design treatments.
Though the Dawn is closely related to the Wraith Coupe and the discontinued first-gen Ghost sedan, Rolls-Royce notes that 80% of its panels were entirely unique, including a ‘wake channel’ on the bonnet emanating from the Spirit of Ecstasy.
“In reviving the Dawn nameplate, Rolls-Royce reinvigorated something much more than a motor car – like the glamorous convertible it drew inspiration from, the contemporary Dawn has come to characterise a modern expression of ‘la dolce vita’…”
“Dawn truly reflects the joy of good company, the thrill of adventure and the peace of quiet reflection. Indeed, this motor car is a testament to the modern art of living, recalling ‘la dolce vita’ spirit in every detail.
“As production of Dawn draws to a close, we can reflect on an extraordinary chapter in the marque’s history. This beautiful motor car perfectly embodies contemporary luxury while celebrating the marque’s founding principles and heritage.” says Torsten Müller-Ötvös, Chief Executive Officer, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars.
Powering the standard Rolls-Royce Dawn is the marque’s near-silent 6.6-litre, 563bhp twin-turbo V12. The same engine powers the Black Badge variant of Dawn, though tuned to deliver an extra 30bhp and boost torque to 840Nm.
