Governor Sanwo-Olu unveils 150 CNG trucks to boost food logistics, says they can travel to all parts of the country on full tank.

The 150 trucks were unveiled at the launch of the Produce for Lagos Programme and the ₦500 billion Offtake Guarantee Fund. 

Sanwo-Olu said that the trucks can travel to all parts of the country on a full tank and return to Lagos without refuelling at any CNG filling station.

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Wednesday launched the Produce for Lagos Programme and the ₦500 billion Offtake Guarantee Fund, an initiative aimed at making Lagos and Nigeria as a whole more food secure and self-reliant.

At the event, Sanwo-Olu inaugurated 150 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG)-powered cold and dry trucks that will help to transport food from across the country to Lagos in order to reduce post-harvest losses nationwide.

Sanwo-Olu said that the fleet of 150 CNG-powered 40-foot trucks are the largest of its kind in the country, adding that can travel to all parts of the country on a full tank and return to Lagos without refuelling at any CNG filling station.

“We’re not doing this alone. This is a partnership between the government and the private sector. It is being implemented through the Lagos Food Systems Infrastructure Company, with support from Lagos Bulk Trading Company, Ekolog, and the Produce for Lagos Fund.”

“And to back it all up, we have rolled out a fleet of 150 cold and dry trucks, the largest of its kind in the country, to make sure food gets where it needs to go, safely and efficiently.”

“Lagos is the biggest food market in Nigeria. We consume more than half of the food traded in the South-West, and our food economy is worth over ₦16 trillion,” Sanwo-Olu said
