According to local media, a US teacher was arrested after allegedly locking her Covid-19 positive son in a car boot to protect herself from virus exposure while driving to a testing site.

Sarah Beam, 41, is said to have been charged with endangering a child.

According to click2Houston.com, a witness called police after hearing someone in the vehicle’s trunk on January 3 at the site in Harris County, Texas.

According to reports, the teacher opened the boot to reveal the boy inside.

According to local media, Ms Beam stated that her 13-year-old son tested positive for Covid-19 and that she was taking him to the Pridgeon Stadium location for another test to confirm the result.

She allegedly stated that she had placed the adolescent in the car boot because she did not want to become infected herself.

According to ABC affiliate KTRK-TV, a health worker told her there would be no coronavirus test until the boy was allowed to sit in the back seat of the car.

According to local media, Ms Beam has been a teacher at Cypress Falls High School since 2011, but she is now on administrative leave.

According to the Cy-Fair ISD Police Department, “CFPD was alerted earlier this week that a child was in the trunk of a car at a drive-thru Covid-19 testing site.”

“Law enforcement conducted a thorough investigation, which resulted in an arrest warrant.” Fortunately, no harm was done to the child.”

According to Sgt Richard Standifer of the Texas Department of Public Safety, if the vehicle had collided, the boy could have been seriously injured.

“I’ve never heard of anyone being put in a trunk because they tested positive for anything,” Sgt Standifer said.
