The First Lady, Aisha Buhari on Thursday travelled from Kaduna to Abuja by train, a move her aide said was meant to encourage more Nigerians to use that safer and faster mode of transportation.

Mrs Buhari, who was in the company of her younger brother, Mahmud Ahmad and a few aides, had reportedly arrived in Kaduna from Kano by air, before travelling on the Kaduna-Abuja train for her return journey to Abuja.

Others, who took part in the heavily-guided train ride includes armed soldiers and operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS), who were seen behind the compartment of the train.

Many Nigerian commuters have resorted to taking the 2 hours 30 minutes ride between the two cities by train, following the incessant kidnappings on the Kaduna-Abuja road.

The present administration, headed by President Muhammadu Buhari, has invested heavily in the revamping of Nigeria’s rail sector. Passengers had insisted that the train service remained the safest means of transportation, despite the recent attack along the route.

Following the attack that saw the railway bombed, security operatives were drafted along the rail lines and its surrounding areas to ensure improved security.
