Vauxhall to quickly build a ‘new Electric SUV for Europe’ from parts sourced from Chinese partner, Leapmotor.
New Vauxhall SUV expected to be on sale as early as 2028, alongside its current SUV range, consisting of the Grandland and Mokka.
Vauxhall’s new model to be developed by Opel in Rüsselsheim while Corsa plant in Spain will manufacture the electric SUV.

Stellantis and Chinese manufacturer, Leapmotor, are taking their partnership to the next level with a completely new, C-segment all-electric SUV that would be co-develop and produced for the European market.
Under the new plan, the new model will be designed and developed in less than two years by Opel in Rüsselsheim while Stellantis’ Corsa plant in Zaragoza, Spain will manufacture the electric SUV.
While the brand’s forthcoming C‑segment electric SUV will feature Vauxhall’s signature design and chassis engineering, it is expected to use core components from Leapmotor, including the electric motors and battery technology.

“The SUV would be is designed and created by us at Opel-Vauxhall in Rüsselsheim and developed by international teams located in Germany and China,” said Opel-Vauxhall CEO Florian Huettl.
“The partnership with Leapmotor should enable a development time of less than two years. With this, Opel-Vauxhall is planning a further important step in the development of state-of-the-art and accessible electric vehicles for our customers.”
The Franco-Italian automaker said the new Vauxhall C-SUV is expected to be on sale as early as 2028, alongside its current SUV range, consisting of the Grandland, Frontera and Mokka.
Stellantis bought a 21 percent stake in Leapmotor in 2023 and holds a 51 percent of a LPMI, the latter – a largely commercial Joint Venture through which it sells Leapmotor EVs outside China, with Leapmotor owning 49 percent.
