Lagos Blue Line Moves 3.5 Million Passengers In 2025, Daily Ridership Rises To 15,000 Passengers

Current daily ridership rises to 15,000 passengers, showing growing public acceptance of the rail system.

The Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) Blue Line, managed by the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA), transported about 3.5 million passengers in 2025, while daily trips increased from 72 to 90, showing growing public acceptance of the rail system.

Speaking at the 2026 Ministerial Press Briefing, the Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, stated that the current daily ridership on the rail corridor has also risen to 15,000 passengers, showing growing public acceptance of the rail system.

Speaking further, the Commissioner revealed that the construction activities on Blue Line Phase II are ongoing with continued track construction, station development, installation of power systems and supporting rail infrastructure.

Speaking on the first phase of the 37km LRMT Red Line rail which runs from Agbado to Oyingbo, Osiyemi said the State Government is equally expanding operations on the project to improve connectivity and reduce travel time across Lagos.

On the Green Line Rail Project designed to transport 35,000 passengers per hour, the Commissioner revealed that the proposed 68-km rail corridor will connect Marina to Lekki Free Trade Zone through Victoria Island, Lekki, Ajah and Sangotedo with about 17 stations.

Osiyemi also revealed that several new projects are already planned for 2026, including the Purple Rail Line projects, the Lekki Water Taxi initiative, AI driver simulators for training, modernisation of transport infrastructure, and further deployment of smart mobility systems across Lagos State.

At the Briefing, the Ministry also revealed that the Lagos Bus Services Limited (LBSL) has transported more than 60 million passengers since its inception, with over 42,000 commuters currently using the buses daily across different corridors.
