$2.72 million F1-engined Mercedes-AMG ONE being transported in a trailer explodes in England.

Mercedes said it is aware that the AMG ONE’s engine was switched off while being towed by a transport lorry.

The exploded F1-engined E Performance branded road racer is one of only 275 Mercedes planned to make.

German automaker, Mercedes-Benz, said it is investigating the blaze in the AMG ONE which occurred while the F1-Inspired hypercar was being transported in a trailer in England in the early hours of May 17.

Firefighters called to scene were unable to salvage the limited-edition Mercedes-AMG ONE, which was reduced to a charred frame and cinders. The exploded F1-engined car is one of only 275 Mercedes-Benz planned to make.

A Mercedes-Benz spokesperson told English newspaper The Sun UK it is aware that the AMG ONE’s engine was switched off while being towed by a transport lorry.

“We are aware of this incident involving a car that was being transported in a closed trailer as part of its assembly process.

“Fortunately, as far as we are aware, nobody was injured.

“At this point in time, we do not know what caused the fire and, if needed, we will support the investigation of the insurance company.”

The long-delayed production 2023 Mercedes-AMG ONE hypercar finally made its public debut at this year’s 2022 Goodwood Festival of Speed in November.

Only 275 units of the Coventry-built 1,049 horsepower AMG ONE will be made, all of which are spoken for, despite each hypercar costing a whopping $2.72 million.

The E Performance branded road racer has six different drive mods, including Race Safe, Race, EV (all-electric driving), Race Plus (race track only), Strat 2 (race track only), and Individual.

Mercedes-AMG says the ONE will hit 62 mph from a stop in 2.9 seconds, 0-124mph in 7.0secs, 0-186mph in 15.6secs and reach 124 mph in 7.0 seconds, going on to a top speed of 219 mph.
