2023 Chevrolet Colorado Debuts, Drops V6 For Turbo 4 And Loaded With Tech
The redesigned 2023 Chevrolet Colorado was revealed on Thursday with a new powertrain, platform, design, and technology. The simplified lineup consisting of five trim levels will only come in a crew-cab, short-bed configuration when it enters production in the first half of 2023 in Wentzville, Missouri.
All models ride on a new chassis that gives the 2023 Colorado a 3.1-inch longer wheelbase than the current pickup in the Crew Cab, short box configuration. Unlike the existing version, there’s only one body style available. The extended cab variant is no longer part of the range, and only one-bed length is in the lineup.
Every 2023 Colorado will be powered by a 2.7-litre turbo-4, but output varies based on the trim. Base WT (Work Trucks) and LT models will have 237 hp and 259 lb-ft of torque. A Plus version of this same engine with 310 hp and 390 lb-ft of torque will be standard in Z71 and Trail Boss models while available in the WT and LT trims. The enthusiast-oriented off-road ZR2 model returns and has 310 hp and 430 lb-ft of torque from a high-output version of the turbo-4, which will be available as an option on all trims with a confusing caveat: WT and LT buyers will have to option up to the Turbo Plus and then from there the High-Output engine when ordering their trucks.
On The inside, there’s a new 11.3-inch infotainment screen (an eight-inch screen is standard) powered by Android Automotive, similar to the unit found in the larger Silverado 1500.
The screen can show up to 10 camera views (more than any competitor), including an underbody camera for the Z71 and ZR2. Off-road lovers will get good use out of the Off-Road Performance Display, which can show altitude, GPS guidance, pitch, roll, tire pressure, G-force, wheel slip indicator, and transfer case status. These cameras can help with towing too, with Hitch Guidance now standard for 2023
The truck also comes with a standard safety suite that includes forward collision alert, automatic emergency braking, front pedestrian braking, lane keep assist with departure warning, following distance indicator and IntelliBeam automatic high-beam assist.
