2025 Saw VW Group’s Deliveries Dropped Due To Issues In The US And China
Weak sales in China and the United States slowed Volkswagen Group deliveries in 2025, with the group delivering nearly 9 million vehicles worldwide, down 0.5% from a year earlier, the company said on Monday.
Although Europe’s biggest carmaker posted growth on the continent, those gains were not enough to offset declines in China and North America.
“First of all, the intense competitive situation in China, as well as tariffs and the end of subsidies for electric vehicles in the US, have damaged our business,” said Audi board member for sales Marco Schubert, who also oversees the group-wide portfolio. Audi is owned by the Volkswagen Group.
“On the other hand, we have further expanded our strong position in Europe despite new competitors. The same is true in South America, where we have also gained market share.”
In China, where the group is battling strong price competition from local electric car makers, 2.69 million vehicles were delivered in 2025, down 8% from the previous year.
In North America, where European carmakers are suffering from US President Donald Trump’s tariffs, deliveries fell 10.4% to 946,800 vehicles.
In Europe, the group recorded clear growth, delivering 3.38 million vehicles of all brands, which is a growth of 3.8% compared to 2024. In South America, growth was even stronger, with 11.6% to 663,000 vehicles.
In the fourth quarter, global deliveries fell by almost 5% to 2.38 million vehicles. In China, the drop was 17.4% to just 720,000 cars, and North America was also down 17.4% to 238,000 vehicles.
