Police In Vienna Confiscate A €3 Million Bugatti Chiron

Austrian police seized a three-million-euro Bugatti Chiron on Vienna’s Ringstrasse after the driver was caught speeding at 123 km/h, reports the daily Heute.

A 38-year-old Austrian driver was behind the wheel of a Bugatti Chiron, bearing German license plates, and exceeded the speed limit on that road by more than double, driving the exotic car worth three million euros.

The police were conducting a routine speed check with a mobile radar to catch speeding drivers. They certainly didn’t expect to end up impounding this rare exotic hypercar.

A typical used Bugatti Chiron currently costs around three million euros, has a 16-cylinder engine and 1,500 hp and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.5 seconds.

When checking the details, the 38-year-old driver stated that he was not the owner and that the car belonged to a friend. Despite this, the police had no mercy and confiscated the car, leaving the driver without a driver’s license.

While confiscating a hypercar worth millions of euros may seem a bit extreme, Austria passed strict laws last year to combat speeding. These laws specifically target drivers who drive more than 60 km/h over the speed limit.

It’s not entirely clear what will happen to the car now, but the Austrian government typically sells seized cars to punish offenders, deter speeding, and fill the budget along the way. However, the fact that the driver does not own the car could complicate matters legally.
