The W16 Was Thought To Be Dead, But Bugatti Managed To Save It
As Bugatti completes the creation of the Tourbillon, the long-awaited replacement for the famous Chiron, a fresh report has surfaced indicating that the French brand is working on its latest one-off through its Programme Solitaire subsidiary.
This division, which can only produce two cars annually, debuted its maiden model, the unique Brouillard, in August of last year. The Bugatti FKP Hommage, a contemporary version of the Veyron, was introduced about six months after the Chiron.
The latest Solitaire creation, according to The Supercar Blog, will once again be based on the Chiron but will draw inspiration from both the limited-edition Bolide, Bugatti’s crazy track-only monster, and the new Tourbillon.
Even without any pictures showing off the car’s design yet, it’s easy to envision what it would look like. The Tourbillon has every distinctive feature you would expect from a Bugatti, such as the C-line on both sides and the recognisable horseshoe grille. In contrast, the Bolide had far more aggressive bodywork designed to maximise downforce and looks very different from the Chiron, on which it was based. This unique one-off should look amazing if you combine the bold forms of the Bolide with the elegant lines of the Tourbillon.
The vehicle will be one of the last Bugatti models constructed using the renowned 8.0-liter quad-turbocharged W16 engine since it will be based on the Chiron. Undoubtedly, the Mistral was intended to be the last W16-powered Bugatti; yet, it was introduced before the company found the Solitaire business, since it was evidently aware of the increasing desire for unique hypercars, as seen by previous custom designs from Pagani and Koenigsegg.
It is believed that this extremely unique Bugatti may be introduced in Q3 or towards the conclusion of the current quarter, with a debut during Monterey Car Week possibly making the most sense.
