Coronavirus : Massive 1,000-bed Navy Hospital Ship USNS Comfort Arrives In New York (Photos)
A massive 1,000-bed mobile hospital ship USNS Comfort has arrived in New York to support the city in its fight against coronavirus.
It features 1,000 hospital beds, 12 operating rooms, 80 intensive care units, a pharmacy, and a medical laboratory.
The USNS Comfort, a 1,000-bed Navy Hospital ship, has docked in New York City on Monday as it hopes to alleviate the burden that the city’s hospitals have been facing amid the coronavirus pandemic.
Some of the features in this massive ship includes 1,000 hospital beds, 12 operating rooms, 80 intensive care units, a pharmacy, and a medical laboratory.

Despite its amazing features, no coronavirus-positive patients will be treated aboard the USNS Comfort.
Instead, the USNS Comfort will serve as a “referral hospital” to free up hospital beds that are currently being occupied by COVID-19 patients.
New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio said of the massive ship :
“This is like adding another hospital here in New York City,”
“It’s such a boost to see the military arrive to help us out.”
The USNS Comfort, along with its sister ship, the USNS Mercy, which docked last Friday in Los Angeles, are designed for casualty events.
Each ship has the capacity of 1,000 beds and a medical staff of up to 1,200.
As of March 29, there have been at least 966 coronavirus-related deaths in New York. About 80% of those deaths occurred in New York City.
