Aviation officials have launched investigations into the incident.

Six police officers have sustained injuries after the AgustaWestland AW119 helicopter they were traveling in crashed into a farm in Meru on Saturday morning.

According to the National Police Service (NPS), the team were on their way to Marsabit county for a security meeting when the chopper went down at the Kaithe-Kithoka area in Meru.





Those injured in the accident includes Eastern Regional County Commissioner and two police pilots.

The pilot, Inspector Peter Kemboi, reportedly escaped with no injuries. But his co-pilot, Inspector Jacinta Akorot, had a slight injury on the right leg.

NPS said through its verified Twitter page that .

“The two pilots and four passengers aboard the ill-fated aircraft are receiving medical attention at Meru Level V Hospital,”

The crashed AgustaWestland AW119 helicopter has registration 5Y-NPW. It is among the new helicopters that were recently acquired by police.

Aviation officials have launched investigations into the incident.

Reacting to the accident, the owner of the farm where the chopper crashed, Susan Kanana, said:





“The crash has destroyed my maize, my bananas and other crops. There will be nothing to harvest now.”
