Ganduje Lands Benin For Campaign In Presidential Jet (PHOTOS)
The executive governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Ganduje, arrived Benin City, the Edo State capital, yesterday.
He was in Edo State to offer support to the gubernatorial candidate of the APC, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu.
Ganduje, in the company of other chieftains of the Party, arrived the Benin Airport in a Presidential jet.
The Presidential Jet touched down at the Benin Airport around 3pm. After a brief welcome ceremony, the Governor left the airport riding in a Toyota Land Cruiser in a convoy.
Ganduje is the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Campaign Council for the Edo 2020 Governorship election.
Ize-Iyamu and the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), incumbent Governor Godwin Obaseki are the biggest contenders. The election holds on September 19.
However, the propriety of the use of the Presidential aircraft for a political campaign by a governor has thrown up outrage on social media.
Recall that early in the year, there was an outrage over the propriety of President Muhammadu Buhari’s daughter using a presidential jet on a private mission.
Ms Buhari flew in the jet to Bauchi on a “study tour” of Bauchi Emirate as part of her fieldwork for her ongoing Master’s programme in Photography at a UK university.
Commenting on the development, presidential spokesman Garba Shehu is quoted that it is normal practice in existence for a long time is that the Presidential Air fleet is available to the President and the first family and four others. These four are the Vice President, the Senate President the Speaker and any other person(s) authorised by the President.
