Although the BISS (Bio-inspired Safety Systems) has been in use for a long time, BMW is just starting to use this technology to keep their workers safe and reduce the risks of accidents.

Most of the ideas of this technology were gotten from the Pomelo fruit of the Citrus family, which can fall from great heights without splitting open, other innovative ideas were from the scales of fish and reptiles and also the protective armor of crocodiles and alligators.

The BISS is 20% lighter than the usual helmet and can be used for sporting gears. BMW is currently in partnership with 7 other organisations which include Adidas and some universities in Germany in respect of this project.
