Daimler-owned Mercedes-Benz is celebrating a milestone, with the production of its 400,000th Mercedes G-Wagon since production started in 1979 at the Magna Steyr’s assembly line in Austria.

It comes 3-years after the 300,000th model of the boxy SUV rolled off at the Magna Steyr’s assembly line in Austria.

Reacting to the incredible milestone, Chief of the Off-Road Vehicles division and CEO of Mercedes Graz, Emmerich Schiller, said :

“We are so proud to have produced 400,000 of these off-road vehicles. We’d like to thank our loyal customers and fans, plus our employees – not to mention our production partner in Graz, Magna Steyr”

“And we’re writing the next chapter in this success story. We’re electrifying this series so the G will have a zero-emission future, making our icon future-proof.”

The milestone model is a G400d that is finished in red. It is currently on its way to a G-Wagen enthusiast in Germany, who owns around 20 such models.

Under the bonnet is a 3.0-liter inline-six turbodiesel engine. It delivers the power of 325 horses (243 kW) and 700 Nm (516 lb-ft) of torque.

Since its debuted in 1979, Mercedes has made different variants of the boxy off-roader, fondly called G-Wagon. This includes the Mercedes-Benz G550 and the more luxurious Mercedes-AMG G63 version.

The most luxurious version, the Mercedes-Maybach G650 Landaulet, was launched in 2017. It was designed to celebrate the previous-gen G-Class and to welcome the latest model that was launched in 2018.
